HOW LONG HAS THE COMPANY CHEREAU EXISTED?
The JEAN CHEREAU company was created in 1951 and very quickly the company specialized in vehicles for the transport of perishable goods. The first isothermal vehicle was designed in 1953 and it is this date that was officially chosen for the company’s anniversary.
WHEN WAS THE FIRST CHEREAU REFRIGERATED VEHICLE PRODUCED?
The first vehicles with isothermal bodywork left the factory in 1953 and the first refrigerated vehicle was produced in 1955.
WHO OWNS CHEREAU ?
CHEREAU belongs to The Reefer Group, European leader in polyester technology refrigerated bodywork with a turnover of more than 272 million € and more than 1300 employees as of 31/12 2020.
The Reefer Group also owns the company SOR, the leader in refrigerated bodywork in Spain.
The group is majority owned by the management and a consortium led by Amundi Private Equity Funds including Unexo, Bpifrance, Ouest Croissance alongside minority funds (a pool of regional shareholders including NCI, Normandie Participation, Caisse d’Epargne Normandie Capital, Picardie Investissement and Sodero), the members of the SOR and CHEREAU management committees.

In 2022, nearly 3,750 refrigerated heavy-duty vehicles left the Avranches and Ducey plants. Production has even risen to nearly 4000 vehicles in 2019.

CHEREAU produces exclusively in Normandy with three production sites in Avranches and Ducey, in the heart of the Mont Saint-Michel Bay.

Depending on the year, CHEREAU holds between 45% and 51% of the refrigerated semi-trailer market in France, including 45% in 2022. Last year, the company had a market share of more than 15% in Europe.
